Austin Airport is 12 km from downtown and 18 km from COTA. Uber/Lyft are widely available. The circuit runs shuttle buses from various Austin pickup points on race weekend.

💡 Rent a car for freedom — Austin is spread out. The circuit is 18 km from downtown but traffic on race weekend roads is significant. Shuttle buses are far better for race days.

Austin's most characterful shopping street — vintage stores, independent restaurants, boutique hotels, and the famous 'I Love You So Much' mural. Walk the full mile from the Bouldin Creek Café to Jo's Coffee.

Taller than the US Capitol in Washington DC and built from Texas pink granite. Free guided tours every 30 minutes. The 360-degree view of Austin from the dome is the best urban prospect in Texas.

The world's most acclaimed barbecue — Aaron Franklin's brisket has a 2–4 hour queue from 07:00 and sells out daily by 13:00. Plan around this if you want the definitive Texas food experience.

💡 Arrive at Franklin by 08:00 and bring a folding chair. The queue is social — everyone in it shares the same devotion. The wait is genuinely worth it. Alternatively, La Barbecue on East Cesar Chavez has a similar wait with slightly less fame.

Austin's live music district — 250+ venues in a 2 km strip, every genre, no cover charge at most honky-tonks. Antone's (blues), Stubb's Amphitheater (outdoor), and the Continental Club (since 1957) are the landmarks.

💡 Rainey Street (1 km south of 6th Street) is less crowded and more local — bungalow bars with excellent craft beer and the most authentic Austin music scene.

A 3-acre natural spring-fed pool (20°C year-round) in Zilker Park — the defining Austin morning experience. Open from 05:00. Swimming in a spring-fed pool in an urban park is quintessentially Austin.

COTA opens from 09:00. The circuit has the best fan infrastructure in North America — the Austin360 Amphitheater inside the circuit hosts major acts on qualifying evening and race day. FP1 starts at 13:30.

💡 The COTA observation tower (a 25-metre structure above Turn 1) is free with circuit tickets — the view of the Turn 1 approach from above gives the best understanding of how cars crest the blind hill at 310 km/h.

FP1 at 13:30, FP2 at 17:00. COTA's 20 corners span every type of challenge — the blind Turn 1 crest, the back-of-the-circuit hairpin sequence (Turns 11–15), and the high-speed Turns 17–20 back onto the main straight. FP2 in the Texas October afternoon is warm (28°C) — excellent conditions for race simulation.

💡 The main grandstand at COTA covers the Turn 1 crest approach — the most photographed corner in F1. Watch cars go blind over the hill at full throttle from the grandstand elevation.

Austin's food truck culture is the most developed in America — East 6th Street has 40+ trucks in a 2 km strip. Tacodeli, Veracruz All Natural, and East Side King (Paul Qui's Asian-Tex-Mex fusion) are the landmarks.

The Blanton holds the finest university art collection in the American South — the Hannelore Schulhof Collection of abstract art is world-class. The Bullock Texas State History Museum next door is excellent for the Texas story.

FP3 at 12:30, qualifying at 16:00. COTA qualifying produces dramatic sessions — the circuit's technical variety means teams must find a perfect balance between high-speed downforce and slow-corner mechanical grip. Q3 produces the most compelling live racing of qualifying weekend.

💡 Turn 11 (hairpin) grandstand for qualifying: the braking zone from the back-straight onto the hairpin sees the most aggressive overtaking position attempts of the session.

The Austin360 Amphitheater inside COTA hosts a major concert act on qualifying evening — previous artists include Imagine Dragons, Post Malone, and Billy Joel. All ticketed COTA fans have access. The combination of F1 qualifying and a world-class concert is unique to COTA.

Austin breakfast taco culture is extraordinary — Torchy's Tacos, Veracruz All Natural, or Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ brisket tacos for race day morning fuel.

56 laps of COTA. Race start 15:00. The USGP has evolved from a novelty into a genuine race weekend — the 400,000-strong crowd, the Austin concert culture, and the circuit's quality produce consistently entertaining races. DRS on the main straight provides regular overtaking opportunities. Lewis Hamilton's 6th US GP win here (of record 7) is part of the circuit's history.

Race finishes around 17:00. AUS airport is 20 minutes from downtown and 35 minutes from COTA. Late evening flights to European and North American hubs available. One final Texas BBQ dinner if you can face the queue, or a Rainey Street beer to close.
