🏎️4-day trip itinerary

Qatar Grand Prix

The fastest F1 night race outside of Bahrain — floodlit desert racing, world-class hospitality, and Doha's extraordinary museum district.

Sun, 29 Nov 2026 Losail International Circuit, Lusail 4 days · arrive Sat, 28 Nov 2026

Lusail International Circuit hosts the Qatar Grand Prix as a floodlit night race — the fastest sustained speeds on any floodlit circuit in F1. The circuit is 17 km north of Doha in the newly built Lusail city district. Qatar's capital Doha is a short taxi ride south with the world-class National Museum, spectacular Museum of Islamic Art, and an emerging fine-dining scene. Plan four nights.

Your 4-day itinerary

1

Arrival & Doha Cultural District

~$230

Morning

Arrive at Hamad International Airport1.5 hrs

One of the world's best airports (consistently ranked top 5 globally). The airport itself houses a permanent Damien Hirst installation and an extraordinary aquarium. Taxis and Uber are available; the circuit is 30 km north, Doha city centre is 15 km west.

💡 Qatar allows extended transit visa-free stays — if connecting, even 12 hours gives you enough time to visit the Museum of Islamic Art and the Corniche.

Museum of Islamic Art3 hrs

I.M. Pei's masterpiece on a man-made island in Doha Bay — one of the great museum buildings of the 21st century. The collection spans 7 centuries of Islamic art from Spain to Central Asia. The interior atrium and the bay views from the café terrace are extraordinary.

💡 Free entry. The café serves exceptional Arabic coffee with halwa — have it on the terrace overlooking the Corniche and the West Bay skyline.

Afternoon

National Museum of Qatar2.5 hrs$25

Jean Nouvel's desert rose-inspired building is perhaps the most architecturally dramatic museum structure in the world. The exhibition chronicles Qatar's history from its pearl-diving origins through the natural gas era. The building itself, not just the contents, is the experience.

Souq Waqif2 hrs$20

The restored traditional market is Doha's most authentic public space — spice merchants, falconry equipment shops, Arabic cafés with shisha, and excellent traditional Qatari food restaurants. A complete contrast to the glass towers of West Bay.

💡 Eat at Al Aker Café — traditional Qatari breakfast or lunch. Machboos (spiced lamb rice) and harees (wheat porridge with chicken) are the local specialities.

Evening

Dinner at IDAM by Alain Ducasse2.5 hrs$150

On the 18th floor of the Museum of Islamic Art with 360-degree Doha Bay views, IDAM is Alain Ducasse's interpretation of French cuisine through the lens of Middle Eastern ingredients. An extraordinary setting for a special dinner.

Where to eat

MIA Park cafébreakfast· $20
Souq Waqif traditional restaurantlunch· $25
IDAM by Alain Ducassedinner· $150

MIA Park café: The Museum of Islamic Art's parkside café is the finest breakfast view in Doha.

Souq Waqif traditional restaurant: Try machboos or harees with fresh laban (buttermilk).

IDAM by Alain Ducasse: Reserve well in advance.

Free Practice — Under the Lusail Floodlights

~$160

Morning

The Pearl-Qatar island exploration2.5 hrs$15

A man-made island development 5 km from the circuit — the upscale waterfront promenade has excellent international restaurants and a Mediterranean marina atmosphere. Walk the full Qanat Quartier canal section and the Porto Arabia marina.

F1 Circuit gates open — fan zone2 hrs

The circuit opens 4 hours before the first session. The Lusail circuit has one of the best-organised fan villages on the calendar — good food, team merchandise, and a clear circuit view from the general admission areas.

Afternoon

FP1 — Desert afternoon practice1 hr

FP1 at 17:00 in fading afternoon heat (35–38°C). Tyre heating and cooling characteristics in this heat give engineering teams a different challenge. Watch from the shaded main grandstand areas.

💡 The long main straight (Turn 16 to Turn 1 sequence) is 1.1 km — the longest straight at Lusail. Position yourself at the Turn 1 braking zone for the best action.

FP2 — Night practice session1 hr

FP2 at 21:00 under full floodlight. The circuit transforms at night — the desert darkness behind the lit track is dramatic, and the temperature drops 10 degrees, giving completely different tyre behaviour. Race simulations run here to gather data for Sunday night.

Evening

Post-session Lusail city promenade2 hrs$40

Lusail is Qatar's newest city — the 2022 World Cup Lusail Stadium is 2 km from the circuit. The waterfront promenade has restaurants and cafés open until midnight.

Where to eat

Hotel breakfastbreakfast· $25
Circuit food courtlunch· $25
Lusail promenade dinnerdinner· $40

Circuit food court: The circuit food village serves excellent shawarma and mezze alongside standard international options.

3

Qualifying Night

~$215

Morning

Katara Cultural Village2.5 hrs

Qatar's arts and culture complex on the waterfront south of The Pearl — amphitheatre, galleries, international restaurants, and a traditional Qatari house museum. The Byzantine church and mosque sitting side-by-side in the same complex is architecturally distinctive.

Afternoon

Desert dune drive or afternoon rest4 hrs$100

Day trips to Qatar's inland sea (Khor Al Adaid, 80 km south) offer genuine desert — sand dunes, 4WD driving, and the inland sea where the Arabian Gulf meets the Saudi border. A half-day tour costs $90–120 per person.

Circuit arrival for qualifying1 hr

FP3 at 17:00, qualifying at 21:00. Circuit fills significantly for qualifying night. Arrive by 16:00 to be settled in your grandstand position.

Evening

F1 Qualifying — Q1, Q2, Q31 hr

Qualifying at 21:00 under floodlights. Lusail's high-speed sweeping corners make it a genuine driver's circuit — Turn 16 is a flat-out 270 km/h right-hander that requires total commitment. The main grandstand view covers both the pit straight and the critical Turn 1 braking zone.

💡 The Lusail circuit's night atmosphere is genuinely beautiful — the cool desert air and the full circuit illumination create a setting unique among all F1 venues.

Where to eat

Hotel breakfastbreakfast· $25
Katara café or Pearl restaurantlunch· $35
Circuit or post-qualifying Lusail diningdinner· $40
4

Race Night & Departure

~$148

Race start 21:00 AST (18:00 UTC). HIA airport is 24 hours. Post-race traffic from Lusail takes 45–60 minutes to clear.

Morning

Al Zubarah archaeological site day trip4 hrs$15

UNESCO World Heritage site — a perfectly preserved 18th-century Qatari town on the northwest coast, 110 km from Doha. The mud-brick fort and abandoned merchant houses tell the story of pre-oil Qatar's pearl trade. Dramatically atmospheric at any time of day.

💡 Hire a car for this trip — the drive north through Qatar's flat desert landscape is remarkable in its own stark way.

Afternoon

Race day circuit arrival3 hrs

Race start is 21:00. Arrive by 18:00 for support races and the extended pre-race entertainment. Qatar race day has a concert on the main stage before the race. The circuit atmosphere builds slowly but the 20:30 atmosphere is electric.

Qatar Grand Prix — Race2 hrs

57 laps of high-speed desert racing under the floodlights. Qatar requires aggressive tyre management — the soft compounds wear heavily through the high-speed sweepers. Strategy is complex and the final laps are typically dramatic. Race finish around 23:00.

💡 Lusail's main grandstand gives a complete view of the pit straight, Turn 1, and the final sector — the DRS activation point is visible from the main stand, allowing you to follow the strategic battle in real time.

Evening

Post-race airport or Doha2 hrs$20

Hamad Airport is 24 hours with excellent airside dining. The drive from Lusail to the airport takes 40 minutes post-race. Alternatively, stay another night and fly the following morning via Doha's extensive connection network.

Where to eat

Hotel checkout breakfastbreakfast· $25
Circuit race day foodlunch· $30
Hamad Airport dining airsidedinner· $40

Hamad Airport dining airside: HIA has exceptional airport dining — Al Mourjan lounge (accessible with Qatar Privilege Club Gold or higher) is world-class.
