HYROX London

Race in the world's fitness capital at ExCeL London β€” then Borough Market awaits.

Sat, 21 Mar 2026 ExCeL London, London 3 days Β· arrive Fri, 20 Mar 2026

HYROX London is held at ExCeL London in Royal Docks β€” one of the UK's premier exhibition and convention venues with over 100,000 sqm of event space. London runs HYROX twice a year (March and November), making it one of the most frequent stops on the global calendar. The field is enormous and the atmosphere at ExCeL is among the best of any HYROX event worldwide. Day 1 is the HYROX Expo at ExCeL, Day 2 is race day, and Day 3 is recovery exploring London's South Bank and Borough Market.

Your 3-day itinerary

1

Arrival & HYROX Expo

~$140

Morning

Arrive at London Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW)1.5 hrs$16

Heathrow: the Elizabeth Line (purple Crossrail) connects directly to central London in 30–40 minutes (Β£12.80). Gatwick: Gatwick Express to Victoria in 30 minutes (Β£19.90). From the city centre, the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) connects to ExCeL London (Custom House or Prince Regent stations) easily.

πŸ’‘ Get an Oyster card or use your contactless bank card β€” tap in/out on the Elizabeth Line, DLR, Overground, and buses. Contactless is the fastest option for a short visit.

HYROX Expo β€” ExCeL London2 hrs

ExCeL London (Excel Exhibition Centre, Royal Victoria Dock) is a world-class venue. The HYROX London expo is among the largest in Europe β€” major UK fitness brands, HYROX merchandise, supplement booths, and demonstrations. Bib collection is mandatory at the expo. DLR stops Custom House and Prince Regent are both 5 minutes' walk.

πŸ’‘ London HYROX consistently has 10,000+ registered athletes β€” one of the world's largest HYROX events. Collect your bib on Friday to avoid Saturday morning expo crowds. The merchandise stand sells out of popular sizes early.

Afternoon

South Bank walk β€” Tower Bridge to Borough Market area2 hrs

A 15-minute DLR + tube from ExCeL brings you to London Bridge. Walk the South Bank from London Bridge west towards the Tate Modern β€” the Thames path is flat, scenic, and perfect for pre-race leg loosening. Tower Bridge views, Southwark Cathedral, and the Borough Market exterior.

πŸ’‘ Borough Market is closed on Sundays and Mondays, but the area itself is worth walking even when the stalls are closed. Full market on Thursday–Saturday.

Tate Modern (optional)1 hr

Free entry to one of the world's great modern art museums, housed in a converted Bankside Power Station. The permanent collection is free. Walking the turbine hall is always worthwhile.

Evening

Pre-race dinner β€” Bermondsey or Borough2 hrs$35

The area around London Bridge and Bermondsey has excellent carb-friendly restaurants. Padella (Borough) does exceptional fresh pasta at low prices (expect a queue β€” no reservations). Flat Iron (Bermondsey) does superb steak. For guaranteed carbs, Franco Manca sourdough pizza at multiple London locations is the pre-race London classic.

πŸ’‘ Padella does not take bookings β€” arrive before 18:00 to avoid a long queue. The pici cacio e pepe is one of London's best value pasta dishes at under Β£10.

Where to eat

CafΓ© near ExCeL or hotelbreakfastΒ· $10
Borough Market stalls (if open) or nearby cafΓ©lunchΒ· $14
Padella or Franco MancadinnerΒ· $18

Borough Market stalls (if open) or nearby cafΓ©: Borough Market has exceptional hot food stalls β€” Ethiopian, Monmouth Coffee, BBQ pulled pork.

Padella or Franco Manca: High carb pre-race. Padella is exceptional value β€” under Β£12 for a bowl of fresh pasta.

2

Race Day β€” 8 Stations, 1 Goal

~$175

Heats run from 08:00 to 18:00 β€” arrive at ExCeL 60 minutes before your assigned heat. Check your heat time on the HYROX app the evening before. Live leaderboards update on the HYROX app throughout the day. The SkiErg (station 1) sets the pace for your entire race β€” London fields are competitive and the temptation to race others on the SkiErg is real. Start controlled. Your race is decided in the second half, not the first.

Morning

Pre-race breakfast30 mins$14

Eat 2.5–3 hours before your heat. London hotels have decent breakfast options. Porridge with banana and peanut butter is the HYROX athlete's friend β€” oats for sustained energy, banana for potassium, peanut butter for fat and protein. Pack your race bag the night before.

πŸ’‘ London HYROX heats start early β€” 08:00 first wave. If you are in a late heat, use the morning to watch earlier heats and study the transitions between stations.

DLR to ExCeL β€” Transition area1 hr$4

The DLR from central London to Custom House station (ExCeL) runs every 5–8 minutes and takes 20–30 minutes from most central stations. The transition area opens 60 minutes before each heat. Set up chalk, wrist straps, and confirm your allocated transition slot.

πŸ’‘ ExCeL is large β€” give yourself extra time to navigate from the DLR entrance to the correct hall. The indoor running track at London HYROX is one of the best-designed on the circuit β€” the turns are smooth and the surface is excellent.

Afternoon

HYROX Race β€” London1.5–2.5 hrs

8 x 1km runs alternating with 8 functional stations: SkiErg β†’ Sled Push β†’ Sled Pull β†’ Burpee Broad Jump β†’ Row β†’ Farmers Carry β†’ Sandbag Lunges β†’ Wall Balls. With 10,000+ athletes across the weekend, London has the loudest, most energetic athlete village atmosphere on the circuit. The crowd support is exceptional.

πŸ’‘ London fields are large and competitive. The Wall Balls (station 8) are 100 reps of a 6kg (women) or 9kg (men) ball thrown to a 9-foot target β€” your arms are already fatigued by this point. Train double-unders and wall balls when tired to simulate race conditions.

Athlete village and finisher celebration2 hrs

The HYROX London athlete village is one of the biggest on the calendar β€” sponsors, recovery demos, DJ sets, and live results on huge screens. The finisher medal and t-shirt collection zone is well-organised. Watch later waves from the spectator area.

πŸ’‘ The HYROX app shows your live rank in your category β€” check it immediately after finishing while the results are fresh.

Evening

Recovery dinner β€” Shoreditch or Bermondsey2 hrs$55

London has an extraordinary food scene. For post-race recovery protein, Hawksmoor (Shoreditch) does exceptional British beef steaks. For something lighter, Dishoom (multiple locations) does Bombay cafΓ© food β€” dal, rice dishes, and chai β€” perfect for recovery. Book in advance for Hawksmoor.

πŸ’‘ Book Hawksmoor or Dishoom well in advance β€” both require reservations and Saturday evenings fill months ahead. Dishoom accepts walk-ins at the queue but waits can be 90 minutes.

Where to eat

Hotel porridgebreakfastΒ· $14
Athlete village recovery packslunch
Hawksmoor or DishoomdinnerΒ· $55

Hotel porridge: Porridge, banana, peanut butter β€” the HYROX standard.

Athlete village recovery packs: Sponsor-distributed recovery food and energy drinks.

Hawksmoor or Dishoom: High protein recovery. Book in advance β€” these are London's most popular restaurants.

3

Recovery & Departure

~$120

Morning

Borough Market1.5 hrs$15

London's oldest and most renowned food market (operating since 1756) is best visited on Saturday β€” but if your race was Saturday, Sunday morning is the South Bank alternative. On Sunday, the Bermondsey Antiques Market on Bermondsey Square opens at dawn. Borough Market itself is worth walking even if you want to pick up a coffee and a pastry from the nearby Monmouth Coffee on Maltby Street.

πŸ’‘ Monmouth Coffee (Bermondsey Street) is the best cup of coffee in London. The queue moves fast and the flat white is worth every minute of the wait.

Tate Modern walk-through1 hr

Flat terrain, free entry, and world-class art β€” exactly what post-HYROX legs need. The Turbine Hall installation changes each season and is always visually spectacular.

Afternoon

London departure β€” Heathrow or Gatwick1 hr$18

Elizabeth Line from Paddington to Heathrow in 38 minutes. Gatwick Express from Victoria in 30 minutes. Allow 2.5 hours before departure for international flights.

Where to eat

Monmouth Coffee and Borough area cafΓ©breakfastΒ· $12
Borough Market or pub lunchlunchΒ· $20

Monmouth Coffee and Borough area cafΓ©: Best coffee in London β€” flat white and a pastry.

Borough Market or pub lunch: A Sunday pub roast is one of England's finest institutions β€” beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes. Good protein recovery.

🎟️ Ticket advice

Register at hyrox.com β€” London HYROX sells out faster than almost any other stop on the circuit. Entry is approximately Β£90–130. The HYROX app is essential for heat assignments, live leaderboards, and official split times. Check the HYROX website β€” London runs twice a year (March and November), so there is a second chance if one event sells out.
