Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon

Run Singapore's iconic skyline before dawn โ€” the world's most illuminated marathon.

Sun, 6 Dec 2026 Orchard Road, Singapore 3 days ยท arrive Sat, 5 Dec 2026

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon starts at 05:00 to beat the tropical heat โ€” a pre-dawn race through Marina Bay, past the Merlion, over the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, and through the lighted central business district. Running through Singapore's skyline before sunrise is genuinely spectacular. The race weekend coincides with December's cooler season and the city's world-class food scene provides extraordinary pre- and post-race fuelling.

Your 3-day itinerary

1

Arrival & Race Expo at Singapore Expo

~$90

Morning

Arrive Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)1 hr$2

Changi Airport is consistently ranked the world's best airport โ€” multiple terminal activities (butterfly garden, rooftop pool, free cinema) make even a transit worthwhile. The MRT from Changi Airport takes 30 minutes to the city centre. No car needed in Singapore.

๐Ÿ’ก Get an EZ-Link card at the airport MRT station for all public transport. Top up at any MRT station.

Singapore Marathon EXPO2 hrs

The race expo is held at Singapore Expo (Expo MRT station, East West Line). Bib collection is mandatory in person on Saturday. The expo is large and well-organised with gear shops and race information.

Afternoon

Gardens by the Bay2.5 hrs$30

The Supertree Grove and Cloud Forest dome at Gardens by the Bay are Singapore's most iconic modern landmarks. The evening light show (OCBC Garden Rhapsody at 19:45 and 20:45) projects coloured light across the 18 metal supertrees โ€” extraordinary.

๐Ÿ’ก The Cloud Forest dome (indoor climate-controlled garden with a 35m indoor waterfall) is unmissable. Book in advance.

Marina Bay Sands sky park preview1 hr

Walk past the Marina Bay Sands hotel and the ArtScience Museum. This is part of your race route โ€” recognising the landmarks you'll run past at 05:00 helps enormously on race day.

Evening

Hawker centre dinner โ€” Maxwell Food Centre2 hrs$15

Singapore's hawker culture is UNESCO-listed. Maxwell Food Centre near Chinatown has Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice (consistently rated among the world's best dishes), char kway teow, and wonton noodles โ€” all for $3โ€“6 per plate. This is the best food deal on earth.

๐Ÿ’ก Arrive at Maxwell before 19:00 โ€” the best stalls sell out. Tian Tian Chicken Rice (stall #1) usually has a queue โ€” worth the 15-minute wait.

Where to eat

Changi Airport cafรฉbreakfastยท $8
Expo food courtlunchยท $10

Maxwell Food Centre hawker: Keep it light and familiar for the pre-race evening โ€” avoid too much chilli.

2

Race Day โ€” Pre-Dawn Singapore

~$91

Race start 05:00 from Orchard Road. Extreme heat risk in December Singapore โ€” SCMS organisers enforce strict hydration protocols. All hydration stations are mandatory stops if you're running in warm conditions. Pace conservatively.

Morning

04:00 wake-up and pre-race meal1 hr$12

Race start is 05:00 for the full marathon. Wake up at 04:00, eat a light breakfast (toast, banana, sports drink), and head to the start at Orchard Road by 04:30. The MRT runs from 05:00 โ€” you'll need a taxi or Grab (Singapore's ride-hailing app) to reach the start before that.

๐Ÿ’ก Book a Grab the night before to guarantee pickup at 04:15. Grab is Singapore's dominant ride-hailing app โ€” reliable and affordable.

Orchard Road start area30 mins

The race starts at Orchard Road at 05:00 in pitch darkness. The city lights and the dramatic pre-dawn atmosphere are unique to the Singapore Marathon โ€” no other major marathon starts in darkness through a skylit city.

๐Ÿ’ก Wear your race singlet and shorts โ€” it will be 26ยฐC and humid at 05:00 regardless of the December date. Light, moisture-wicking clothing only.

Afternoon

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon4โ€“6 hrs

42.195 km through Orchard Road, Marina Bay (Benjamin Sheares Bridge), past the Merlion, through Chinatown and the CBD, and finishing at the Padang field facing the bay and the city skyline. The sun rises over Marina Bay between km 15โ€“20 โ€” one of the most beautiful moments in marathon running.

๐Ÿ’ก Hydrate aggressively from km 1 โ€” even in December Singapore is hot and humid. Aim for 400โ€“600ml water/electrolytes per hour minimum.

Padang finish & recovery1 hr

The Padang field finish (facing the Supreme Court and St Andrew's Cathedral) is historic and atmospheric. The finisher village has medical tents, ice towels, cold drinks, and the air-conditioned Singapore Cricket Club pavilion for shade and recovery.

Evening

Lau Pa Sat hawker centre2 hrs$22

Lau Pa Sat is a Victorian iron-frame hawker centre in the CBD โ€” one of Singapore's most beautiful food venues. The Satay Street outside Lau Pa Sat (Friday/Saturday evenings) has the best satay in Asia. An ideal recovery dinner in the most Singapore of settings.

๐Ÿ’ก Satay Street operates Friday and Saturday evenings โ€” if your race day is Sunday, go on Saturday evening pre-race (lighter option) or find Lau Pa Sat's indoor stalls after the race.

Where to eat

Hotel room pre-racebreakfastยท $10
Finisher packslunch
Lau Pa Sat satay and hawkerdinnerยท $22

Hotel room pre-race: Toast, banana, sports drink. Small volume โ€” you cannot eat much at 04:00.
