Ultra Music Festival is held at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami every March, marking the official start of Miami Music Week. It is the world's premier electronic music festival β three days at the boundary of Biscayne Bay with the Miami skyline as a backdrop. The RESISTANCE stage (underground techno and house, held inside Bayfront Park's amphitheatre) and the Main Stage (big room and progressive EDM) represent the full spectrum of electronic music. Ultra attracts 165,000 attendees over three days from 100+ countries β the most international electronic music crowd on earth. Miami Beach hotels and the Wynwood arts district make for exceptional surrounding culture.
Your 3-day itinerary
Arrival & South Beach Immersion
Morning
MIA is 12 km from downtown Miami and 8km from South Beach. The Miami Beach Airport Express bus (Route 150, $2.25) runs to South Beach in 35 minutes. Alternatively, rideshare to South Beach takes 25β40 minutes depending on traffic. Stay in South Beach (most atmospheric) or Brickell (nearest to Ultra venue).
π‘ Miami traffic on the causeway bridges to South Beach can be severe during Ultra week β the Airport Express bus bypasses most congestion.
Ocean Drive's Art Deco hotels (Cardozo, Carlyle, Colony) are a UNESCO-recognised architectural treasure β the world's largest concentration of Art Deco buildings. The pastel-painted facades, neon signs, and palm trees create one of America's most distinctive streetscapes.
π‘ The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum (inside the Art Deco district) has an outstanding collection of design and propaganda art from 1885β1945 β one of Miami's most underrated cultural institutions.
Afternoon
Ultra gates open at 16:00 on Friday. The first afternoon is for exploring stage locations β the Main Stage (bayfront, with Miami skyline backdrop), Resistance amphitheatre, Ultra Worldwide Stage, and Live Stage. The Miami bayside setting is extraordinary at sunset.
π‘ The Resistance stage (inside the Bayfront Park amphitheatre) is Ultra's crown jewel for genuine electronic music fans β a world-class lineup of techno, house, and underground artists in an intimate 15,000-capacity venue.
Ultra's venue sits directly on Biscayne Bay β the Miami city skyline is visible from the festival grounds, and the March sunset over the bay around 19:30 is one of the most spectacular urban festival settings anywhere.
Evening
Ultra's Main Stage headliners are the world's highest-earning DJs β TiΓ«sto, Marshmello, Hardwell, Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, and Martin Garrix have all headlined. The production includes LED panels, lasers, confetti, and pyrotechnics visible from Biscayne Bay.
π‘ The Main Stage view from the Bayfront Park lawn (mid-field, slightly elevated) gives the best combination of sound quality and production visibility β the stage is large enough that front position is not necessary.
Where to eat
South Beach cafΓ©: Versailles Bakery on Calle Ocho (Cuban, 20 min from South Beach) is Miami's most authentic Cuban breakfast β cafΓ© cubano and a media noche sandwich.
Ultra food vendors: Ultra's food offerings improve each year β proper food trucks serving tacos, bowls, and American street food.
Wynwood Walls dinner: The Wynwood arts district has an excellent restaurant scene β book ahead during Ultra week.
Full Festival Day β Resistance Deep Dive
Ultra uses RFID wristbands for re-entry β keep your wristband on for all three days. Re-entry is permitted β you can leave and return on the same day.
Morning
Miami's South Beach is a world-class Atlantic ocean beach β crystal clear water, lifeguards, and perfect March temperatures (25β28Β°C). A morning swim before the second day of Ultra is the essential Miami recovery ritual.
Wynwood Walls is the world's most photographed open-air street art museum β 50+ large-scale murals by internationally renowned artists in the Wynwood arts district. The galleries and restaurants surrounding the Walls have made Wynwood Miami's most culturally vibrant neighbourhood.
Afternoon
The Resistance stage runs from 15:00 with a continuous lineup of underground techno and house DJs. Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, and Nina Kraviz are regular Resistance headliners. The intimate amphitheatre setting creates a club-like atmosphere within the festival.
π‘ The Resistance stage lineup is the most musically credible programming at Ultra β if you have any interest in proper house or techno, prioritise this stage over the Main Stage in the afternoon.
The Bayside Marketplace shopping and entertainment complex (adjacent to Ultra's venue) has waterfront views of Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. A 30-minute walk along the bay between acts is one of the most beautiful festival-adjacent walks in the world.
Evening
Saturday night at Ultra is the peak production event of Miami Music Week β the largest headliner, most elaborate stage show, and highest-energy crowd of the weekend. The combination of warm March air, Biscayne Bay backdrop, and world-class production is genuinely extraordinary.
π‘ Ultra's Main Stage lasers are visible from boats on Biscayne Bay β the festival has a genuine visual impact on the Miami skyline during the headliner set.
Where to eat
Miami Beach breakfast spot: Yardbird Southern Table on Lincoln Road does exceptional Southern brunch food β biscuits and chicken, perfect recovery breakfast.
Final Day & Art Deco Farewell
Morning
Walk the full length of Collins Avenue from 5th Street to 23rd Street β this is South Beach's historic core, with the finest Art Deco hotels, cafΓ©s, and boutiques in Miami. The morning light is the best time to photograph the pastel facades.
Sunday at Ultra is the closing day β the programming across all stages runs from 14:00, with the Main Stage final headliner closing the festival around 23:00.
Afternoon
Miami International Airport (MIA) is 30β45 minutes from South Beach by rideshare or the Airport Express bus. Allow 3 hours before international departures. Monday departure after Ultra Sunday is significantly less congested than Sunday evening.
Where to eat
News CafΓ©, Ocean Drive: The iconic 24-hour cafΓ© on Ocean Drive β Gianni Versace used to breakfast here. Excellent eggs and coffee.
