🌅 Morning
Arrive Hamad International Airport
Hamad International Airport, Doha
HIA (consistently rated the world's best airport) is 15km from downtown Doha. Metro Line 1 to Al Wakra/Msheireb: QAR 4–6 ($1.10–1.65). Karwa Taxi to central Doha: QAR 30–50 ($8–14). Uber also operates.
Qatar operates a liberal visa policy — most nationalities get a free 30-day visa on arrival or via e-visa. No visa fee for US, UK, EU, Australian, Canadian citizens.
☀️ Afternoon
Souq Waqif — the old market
Souq Waqif, Doha
Doha's restored traditional market — spice stalls, falconry equipment shops (Qatar takes falconry very seriously), pet shops selling exotic birds, gold souk, and the restaurants lining the central courtyard. The mud-brick architecture dates from the early 20th century.
The falconry section is extraordinary — trained Saker and Peregrine falcons costing QAR 50,000–500,000 ($14,000–137,000). The annual Qatar International Falconry and Hunting Festival draws falconers from across the Arab world.
🍽️ Meals
Parisa, Souq Waqif
Persian · $55 · The best restaurant at Souq Waqif — in an ornate Persian house with fountain courtyard. The lamb shank and saffron rice are extraordinary.

🌅 Morning
Museum of Islamic Art
Museum of Islamic Art, Corniche, Doha
I.M. Pei's final masterpiece (2008) — a white geometric building on an artificial island in Doha Bay containing the world's finest collection of Islamic art spanning 1,400 years and three continents. The courtyard atrium, the 9th-century Abbasid manuscripts, the Mamluk metalwork, and the Ottoman ceramics are the highlights. Entry free.
The café inside the MIA has the best view of the Doha skyline — the West Bay skyscrapers reflected in the bay from the island terrace is the defining Doha photograph. Free entry to the ground floor café.
☀️ Afternoon
Corniche promenade walk
Corniche, Doha
The 7km waterfront Corniche with views of the entire West Bay skyline — the most photographed view in Qatar. The dhow harbour at the southern end has traditional wooden boats exactly as they've appeared for 200 years, with the glass towers behind them.
The sunset from the Corniche is extraordinary — the sky turns pink-orange over the bay and the towers light up simultaneously. 5:30pm in December.
🌙 Evening
Katara Cultural Village
Katara Cultural Village, Katara, Doha
Doha's dedicated arts quarter — outdoor amphitheatre, art galleries, the beautiful Katara Mosque, and the Katara beach clubs. The Katara Gold Mosque (a non-religious gold-topped building used for events) is architecturally fascinating.
🍽️ Meals
Spice Market W Hotel, West Bay
Pan-Asian · $70 · The most stylish restaurant in Doha. The cocktail selection and the Asian small plates are excellent.
Inland Sea Desert Safari
Friday, December 3
Est. spend
$150
per person
🌅 Morning
Inland Sea (Khor Al-Adaid) 4WD safari
Khor Al-Adaid, Al Wakrah, Qatar
Qatar's most extraordinary natural feature — a saltwater sea accessible only through the dunes. The full-day 4WD safari (deflate tyres, dune bashing, sandboarding, sunset at the Inland Sea, and return by moonlight) is the single best day trip from Doha. Distance: 80km south.
Book through a licensed operator (Regency Travel, Qatar Horizons Tours). The Inland Sea is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — no independent vehicles allowed without a guide. The dune bashing requires professional drivers.
🍽️ Meals
Desert camp lunch — included
Qatari/BBQ · $0 · Traditional Qatari lunch at the desert camp — harees (wheat and chicken porridge), machboos (spiced rice with lamb), and dates.
National Museum & The Pearl
Saturday, December 4
Est. spend
$190

🌅 Morning
National Museum of Qatar
National Museum of Qatar, Museum Park Street, Doha
Jean Nouvel's 2019 building — 539 interlocking disc-shaped modules resembling a desert rose crystal. The exhibition tells the complete story of Qatar from ancient seafloor to pearl diving to oil wealth. Entry QAR 100 ($27.50).
The building's exterior is the exhibit — walk around the entire structure before entering. The desert rose formation is unmistakable once you see the geological reference.
☀️ Afternoon
The Pearl-Qatar island promenade
The Pearl-Qatar, Doha
Qatar's artificial island with 32km of coastline — the Porto Arabia marina with superyachts, the Medina Centrale (Venetian-style piazza), and luxury retail. The canal boat tours (QAR 30/$8) give the best view of the waterfront architecture.
🍽️ Meals
Nobu, The Pearl
Japanese-Peruvian · $90 · The Doha Nobu at The Pearl has excellent service and the full menu. The black cod miso and the new-style sashimi are standards.
