Before you go

📅 Best time to visit

October–March offers comfortable, dry sightseeing weather with daytime temperatures around 20-28°C. Summer (April-June) is extremely hot, often exceeding 40°C, and best avoided for extensive outdoor sightseeing.

🛂 Visas

Most nationalities require an e-Visa for India, obtainable online in advance — apply at least a few days before travel given processing times.

💱 Currency

Indian Rupee (INR). Cash is preferred at bazaars and smaller vendors; cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. UPI-based payment apps are increasingly common but typically require a local bank account.

🆘 Emergency numbers

police: 100

ambulance: 102

💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook

  • Jaipur is the most accessible point of India's 'Golden Triangle' (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) — consider extending a trip to include the Taj Mahal in Agra if time allows.
  • Bargaining is essential and expected at Jaipur's bazaars — start around half the initial asking price and negotiate from there.
  • Visit Amber Fort early in the morning to avoid both the heat and the heaviest tour bus crowds — it's genuinely vast and rewards unhurried exploration.
  • Nahargarh Fort at sunset offers one of the best views over the Pink City — arrive at least an hour early to secure a good spot.
  • Auto-rickshaws are a cheap, practical way to get around for short distances — agree the fare before starting or use a ride-hailing app for fixed pricing.
