🌅 Morning
Drive to Musanze (Volcanoes Gateway)
Musanze, Rwanda
A scenic 2.5-hour drive north through Rwanda's terraced hillsides to Musanze, the gateway town for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

☀️ Afternoon
Volcanoes National Park Visitor Center
Volcanoes National Park headquarters, Musanze
Visit the park headquarters and the Dian Fossey exhibit, with views toward the volcanic peaks of the Virunga range that shelter the mountain gorillas.
If you have extra time and budget, ask about a same-day golden monkey trekking permit — far cheaper than gorilla permits and still spectacular.

- Kigali is widely regarded as one of Africa's safest and cleanest capitals — walking during the day is generally comfortable.
- If you want to actually trek gorillas, book permits through Rwanda Development Board months in advance — they routinely sell out.
