💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook
- Stick to licensed JUTA taxis and organized tours — unlicensed transport and unsolicited 'guides' are common around tourist areas.
- Jerk seasoning (pimento, scotch bonnet pepper, and allspice) defines Jamaican cuisine — try jerk chicken and jerk pork to compare.
- Negril's cliff jumps at Rick's Cafe range from low platforms to a 35-foot leap — there's no obligation to jump, watching is just as fun.
- Ackee and saltfish is Jamaica's national dish, traditionally a breakfast food, worth trying once during the trip.
- Tipping 10-15% is appreciated at restaurants and customary for tour guides, even though it is not automatically added everywhere.
