Day-by-day plan
Arrival & Castries
Saturday, February 20
Est. spend
$200
per person
🌅 Morning
Arrive Hewanorra International Airport
Hewanorra International Airport, Vieux Fort
UVF is in the south of the island, about 75 minutes from Castries and even closer to the Soufriere/Piton area where most of this itinerary's highlights are based — many visitors base themselves in the south rather than Castries.
If your hotel is near the Pitons, ask about a direct transfer from Hewanorra rather than routing through Castries — it saves significant driving time.
☀️ Afternoon
Castries Market and Derek Walcott Square
Castries Market, Castries
A lively covered market selling spices, hot sauces, and crafts, next to a leafy square named for the island's Nobel Prize-winning poet, Derek Walcott.
🌙 Evening
Settle in near Soufriere/the Pitons
Soufriere, Saint Lucia
An evening arrival at a hillside or coastal base near Soufriere, with views of the Pitons silhouetted against the sunset.
🍽️ Meals
Airport snack
International · $8
Castries Market food stalls
Saint Lucian Creole · $14
Hotel/resort dinner, Soufriere
Creole/Caribbean · $30
Gros Piton Hike
Sunday, February 21
Est. spend
$180
per person
🌅 Morning
Gros Piton guided hike
Gros Piton trailhead, Fond Gens Libre
A mandatory-guide hike up the larger of Saint Lucia's two UNESCO-listed volcanic peaks, a steep but manageable trail through dry forest with sweeping views over the southwest coast from the summit.
Start at 7am to avoid the worst midday heat — the trail has little shade on the upper sections.
☀️ Afternoon
Sulphur Springs drive-in volcano
Sulphur Springs, Soufriere
A short drive into the crater of a dormant volcano, where boardwalks pass bubbling sulphur pools and steam vents — the only drive-in volcano in the world.
Combine with the adjacent mud bath pools for a post-hike soak said to have mineral skin benefits.
🌙 Evening
Mud bath soak and rest
Sulphur Springs, Soufriere
A relaxed soak in the warm mineral mud pools fed by the volcanic springs, a fitting end to the day's strenuous hike.
🍽️ Meals
Fond Gens Libre village lunch
Saint Lucian Creole · $16 · Often included as part of the guided hike package.
The Hummingbird, Soufriere
Creole/Caribbean · $35 · Waterfront dining with views of the Pitons.
Marigot Bay & Rainforest Zip-lining
Monday, February 22
Est. spend
$210
per person
🌅 Morning
Rainforest canopy zip-lining
Rainforest Adventures, Chassin
A series of zip-lines through Saint Lucia's lush rainforest canopy near Chassin, with views over the treetops toward the distant Pitons on the longer runs.
☀️ Afternoon
Marigot Bay sailing and swimming
Marigot Bay, Saint Lucia
A picture-postcard natural harbor ringed by palm-covered hills, often called one of the Caribbean's most beautiful bays — a relaxed afternoon sail or water taxi across the bay with a swim stop.
The water taxi between Marigot Bay's two shores is cheap and is the classic way to cross rather than driving around.
🌙 Evening
Marigot Bay waterfront dinner
Marigot Bay, Saint Lucia
An evening at one of the small marina restaurants overlooking the yachts anchored in the bay.
🍽️ Meals
Zip-line center café
Caribbean · $14
Doolittle's, Marigot Bay
Creole/Caribbean · $38 · Waterside dining right on the bay, known for fresh seafood and rum cocktails.

A dark volcanic-sand beach beneath the Pitons with an excellent house reef just offshore for snorkelling among coral and reef fish.
☀️ Afternoon
Creole cooking class — green fig and saltfish
Soufriere area
A short hands-on lesson in Saint Lucia's national dish — green fig (boiled green banana) and saltfish, plus a sampling of local hot pepper sauces and bush teas.

💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook
- Hiking Gros Piton requires a licensed local guide by law — book through the Soufriere Tourist Information Centre or your hotel rather than going independently.
- Green fig and saltfish is Saint Lucia's national dish, worth trying at least once alongside the more familiar grilled seafood.
- Basing yourself near Soufriere rather than Castries cuts significant driving time to the Pitons, Sulphur Springs, and Marigot Bay.
- The mud baths at Sulphur Springs can stain light-colored swimwear — bring a dark or old swimsuit.
- Saint Lucia's roads are narrow and winding through the interior; a local driver or guide is often more relaxing than self-driving.
