📅 Best time to visit
May to August for full falls and cool, dry weather; February to May for the highest water volume (more spray, less visibility); September to December for rafting and lower water levels.
🛂 Visas
Most visitors can obtain a single-entry Zimbabwe visa on arrival, or the KAZA Univisa (around $50) which covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia plus day trips to Botswana through the Kazungula border — convenient if combining both sides of the falls.
💱 Currency
Zimbabwe operates on a multi-currency system; USD is widely accepted and preferred for tourism. Carry small USD bills (1s, 5s, 10s) since change is often given in a mix of currencies or mobile money.
🆘 Emergency numbers
police: 995
ambulance: 994
💬 Things you won't find in a guidebook
- Pack a dry bag or poncho for the Zimbabwe-side falls walk — the spray is heaviest February to May.
- Book bungee, gorge swing, and rafting as a combo package to reduce per-activity cost.
- Tip guides and porters in small USD bills — it's the standard and appreciated practice.
- Elephants and other wildlife sometimes wander into town areas — keep a respectful distance, especially at dusk.
- If crossing to Zambia, confirm KAZA Univisa eligibility for your nationality before you travel to skip a second visa fee.
